Practice makes perfect

So my first batch of cookies didn't turn out to bad. I don't think I will use the star tip to frost the big hearts again only because it didn't look very even but Michael's didn't have the tip that I needed so I will have to wait. But the little hearts I think look adorable. I have so many ideas swimming in my head about different color combinations and sprinkles but for now I just did them really simple. And let me just say that if I didn't have carpal tunnel before, I do now. Frosting is definitely a work out for the wrists and back. And my kitchen was covered in flour and powdered sugar, when Ash came home that evening he thought that there had been smoke in the house, but it was just a powdered sugar haze in the air. I had a couple of little helpers, hence the mess:) I tried to get a sweet little pic of them but they weren't all that cooperative and in the end they turned out hysterical.

When Tatum got home she wanted to try, and she did really well for her first time and only being seven. Should I be jealous?

Multitasking

So here is my new hobby/obsession:) I took a cookie decorating class at my church and I am now hooked. Oh you can be sure to see more posts about this, I know I know you're all excited:) I think they turned out pretty cute for my first attempt.My favorites are the cupcake ones of course and will soon be getting that cookie cutter, you can bet on it.

Happy Birthday Tatum

Yesterday was Tatum's seventh birthday, I can't believe how time has flown by. She is a pretty cool kid to have around. She's as witty as her dad, likes to goof around and is constantly making us laugh, but is also a very girlie girl. She is also quite the artist and loves to do all kinds of crafts, Michael's is her favorite store. We had a birthday party for her on Saturday at our church, with a strawberry theme. The menu consisted of strawberry lemonade, peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwiches cut into flower shapes, cake pops made to look like strawberries, chocolate covered strawberries, and strawberry cupcakes with strawberry meringue butter cream frosting. These by the way were awesome, they were from the Martha Stewart Cupcake cookbook. If you don't have this book you need to go and get it! My lovely friend Alyssa gave me my copy. Unfortunately, I made the frosting the night before and refrigerated it to frost the next day but didn't let it get to room temperature like the directions said and it died :( Me, Ash and our friend David can attest to how wonderful the frosting was. My friend Alyssa came to the rescue and ran to the store to get frosting and sprinkles, we had them finished just in time for the party. She also was a huge help with party supplies and decorating, thank you, thank you, thank you! My other lovely friend Vil also helped with prep, decorating and bringing yummy food, I can't thank you enough! The last thing on the menu was an icecream cake I made. I got the recipe out of Woman's Day Magazine. It had icecream sandwhiches cut into fours as the outer layer with an oreo cookie crust on the bottom. I then layered mint chocolate chip icecream then vanilla and last was strawberry of course. And topped off with a whole tub of cool whip and garnished with a strawberry, it was delicious!And here's some pics of the party. I didn't get as many pics as I would have liked to. It's hard being hostess and mama all at the same time.

The day of her birthday we surprised her with donuts, one of her favorite things to eat, and sang happy birthday.

I'm still here

I have not finished my glitter house yet. It still needs to be glittered and I haven't gone to the craft store to get more glitter. Honestly, it hasn't been a priority, it's been sitting on top of my armoire waiting for me to finish it. I see it every day gathering dust and say tomorrow I'll finish it. And day by day it gets shoved back on my to-do-list along with a hundred other things. And the reason I can't finish it is because of this cute little culpritOh how I love this child but never have I had someone so attached to me as she has been. My house has literally gone into disarray even as I write this post I feel a little guilty, that this is not really important right now and that so much needs to be done. But I know that it's been a while since I've posted so I thought I'd take some time to catch everyone up. Sadie is almost seven months, she's teething, just starting to sit up, she loves to look at herself in the mirror, she won't let me out of her sight and rarely lets anyone else hold her. I can barely put her down for five minutes or she starts crying and not just any cry, I can usually tune out crying pretty well, but her cry is more of a scream and sends shivers up my spine. I have no idea what the neighbors must think and honestly am surprised CPS has not been called because of the noise coming from my house.lol I know this is just a short time but it feels like it will never end. She is truly such a joy to our family and is a very happy child, but rarely do the nursery workers at our church get to see that side of her. Sorry guys:) Nap times and bed time are my favorite part of the day and it feels like I'm sprinting from room to room just to get a few things done before she gets up, all along the rest of the kids are following behind undoing everything I've just cleaned up. There are some rooms that don't even get touched for weeks, I literally close the doors and say clean! Out of sight, out of mind. And then at night after she goes to bed I clock out for the day and just want to crash on the couch, ignoring the massive load of dishes that are waiting for me or the piles of laundry that need to be folded. And this to shall pass, so be patient with me I will get the crafts posted but don't be surprised if it takes me a while. I have also added something pretty fun to my to-do-list, or maybe I'm the only one who thinks it's fun. I bought this at a little antique store for a steal and am super excited about it.Oh I have big plans for this little baby, I want to turn it into a little sweet shoppe/bakery. I got the inspiration from Turkey feathers blog you should check it out, just click on dollhouse bakery under Categories on the left side of her page and you can see all the amazing things she's made for her little bakery. And unashamedly, yes this is my dollhouse.hee hee I will post pics of the renovations as I go, meanwhile I am planning Tatum's 7th birthday party. We are having the party this Saturday, we're doing a strawberry themed party. Let me tell you I have been thinking of hundreds of things I can do with strawberries. I love planning parties and this has been a lot of fun for me. I promise to take a bunch of pics.
